The Project

Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey (BCBSNJ) is a not-for-profit health care company that provides high-quality and cost-effective healthcare delivery systems, insurance, and related products/services to public and private markets.

There are no shareholders. It is New Jersey’s largest and oldest health insurance company. They offer managed care and traditional indemnity plans for individuals and employers, plus a variety of medical, dental, vision, and prescription insurance products and services.

The User Experience

On a national level, the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association is one of the largest, best-known, and most respected names in health insurance.

This assignment was to redesign the Horizon BCBSNJ National Accounts website, which provides Horizon BCBSNJ plan members with a wide range of medical, dental & vision plan options which include, but are not limited to:

  • Advantage EPO
  • BlueCard PPO
  • EPO (Exclusive Provider Organization)
  • Horizon Direct Access
  • Horizon HMO
  • Horizon PPO CDHP HSA
  • Horizon Point of Service (POS)
  • OMNIA Health Plan
  • Traditional Indemnity

The user experience strives to provide an elevated level of service for plan members to help them achieve better health. One of the most important usability goals was to help Horizon BCBSNJ plan members easily connect with caregivers on a national level & make it easier for them to follow their doctor’s treatment plan(s), in addition to mental health services & pharmacy information to fill prescriptions.

Success is ultimately measured if users can find it just as easy to quickly navigate the website & find pertinent information, under the following conditions:

  • When they need to go to the hospital.
  • When they are transitioning home.
  • When they need follow-up care.
  • Or when they need experienced advice.

The redesign of the user interface of this National Accounts Website should enable plan members to partner with care providers, medical directors, home health aides, and more.

It empowers both Horizon BCBSNJ plan members and random site visitors to find in-network doctors and hospitals, get informed about their condition and treatment, and guide them to the integrated care and support they deserve, all to improve their overall health care experience.

Feel your best every day with our wellness programs. Horizon BCBSNJ regularly provides preventive health information. Each month focuses on a popular wellness topic, such as a common health condition or how to integrate a healthy habit.

ID Cards

View, print and request additional member ID cards online. You can even text or email your digital ID card right to your doctors and hospitals.

Traveling Abroad

Blue Cross Blue Shield Global Core offers provider search, medical translations, travel alerts, and more services for eligible Blue Cross Blue Shield members.
